The Influence of Implementing the Leader in Me at a Title I Elementary School

The purpose of this study was to understand the influence of implementing Leader in Me at a Title I elementary school. The researcher conducted a series of focus-group interviews with teachers, students, and other community stakeholders. Analysis of the focus-group data suggested a strong perception that students’ academic performance and behaviors were improving since starting Leader in Me. In particular, the results point to:

• Academic improvements were driven by an increase in self-motivation and hard work.
• Improvements in behavior were attributed to a positive cultural shift that united and empowered all members of the school.
