Speaker Bio

Dynamic Coach and Consultant, Experienced Educator, Social Entrepreneur

Erica Tyson is a passionate coach, consultant, and believer in people. Whether in a coaching session with an urban superintendent, a two-day workshop with rural teachers, a class of women transitioning into the workforce, or collaborating with attendees at a UN conference in Durban, South Africa, Erica fosters transformation and connection. With a career spanning K-16 instruction, nonprofit leadership, youth development, and the arts, Erica brings the richness of her experiences to every session.

Early in her career, Erica researched communities of color for the Missouri Historical Society Through the Eyes of a Child Oral History project 1940-1980. She uncovered the strong legacy of African American neighborhoods despite present-day challenges. Recognizing this hidden potential formed the foundation of her mission: fostering positive change and empowering individuals and communities everywhere.

Erica was the founding Program Director for College Summit, an innovative social entrepreneurship organization. With Wyman Center and TRIO Upward Bound, Erica honed her skills in youth development, team leadership, and volunteer management. She has also served on various boards, including Haven of Grace, United Way’s East Side Aligned, and others.

Teaching and leading professional development at the elementary, secondary, and college levels prepared her to provide meaningful workshops for all education professionals. Since 2014, she has served as a coach and consultant with FranklinCovey, the world leader in consulting and training. She has produced transformational results for clients in 31 U.S. states (and counting) and Canada.

Erica has a Bachelor of Arts in history and African/African American studies from Washington University in St. Louis. She has completed post-baccalaureate coursework in adult learning and various professional certifications. To round out her rich experience, Erica was also a principal dancer and vocalist with Afi Ama West African/African Caribbean ensemble. This enables her to connect with audiences and create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
