Evaluating a Student Leadership Program’s Impact on Elementary Students’ Behavior and Academic Achievement

In this study, the researcher examined a school that had decided to use the Leader in Me process to aid them as they addressed a recent increase in behavioral incidences and a decrease in academic performance. The results revealed the implementation of Leader in Me was having a significant impact on student behavior, evidenced by negative behaviors decreasing as the frequency of positive leadership behaviors were increasing. Interviews with the faculty further revealed a growing culture of leadership and learning that was improving the school. Based on the positive findings, the researcher wrote a policy paper recommending Leader in Me as a process for improving school outcomes.
