Staff Perceptions of the Effect of The Leader in Me on Student Motivation and Peer Relationships in Elementary School

The purpose of this study was to determine if staff perceived the Leader in Me initiative as having a positive impact on student motivation and peer relationships. Interviews were conducted with teachers, administrators, and other staff members from three schools where Leader in Me had been fully implemented. The results confirmed that staff found key elements of Leader in Me to promote an increase in student motivation and positive peer interactions. These key elements included:

• An understanding and pervasive use of 7 Habits language.
• Student goal setting and data tracking.
• Leadership roles and opportunities for students.
• The leadership culture in the schools promoted student ownership of learning.
